Walnuts

Walnuts

Over the last week, I saw a lot of healthy patients come in with higher cholesterol and LDL (“bad”) cholesterol levels. So we’ve been chatting a lot about nutritional strategies to help correct this.

Interestingly, healthy older adults who ate a handful of walnuts a day for 2 years modestly lowered their levels of ‘bad’ LDL cholesterol. The study was called the “Walnuts and Health Aging Study” and was just published in the American Heart Association’s journal, Circulation.

Walnuts are a rich source of many heart-healthy nutrients:

❤️ Omega-3 fatty acids

❤️ Antioxidants

❤️ Copper

❤️ Manganese

❤️ Folate

❤️ Vitamin B6

❤️ Vitamin E

A handful of walnuts equates to about half a cup.

Seems like a simple thing to add to your day, doesn’t it?  What’s your favourite way to eat walnuts?
