Zinc for the Common Cold
Since we’re heading into the middle of cold and flu season, I wanted to share an article that I came across on the potential benefits of zinc and the common cold. You can find the article here.
The authors of the article found that administering zinc within 24 hours of the onset of symptoms reduced the duration and symptoms of the common cold. However, they did not determine an optimal dosage and they were interested to continue further studies on the effect of zinc on the common cold in asthmatics, who experience more severe symptoms.
This is very interesting to me because zinc has always been a part of my arsenal for both myself and my patients in the battle against the common cold! It’s nice to see some evidence coming out in support of it.
