Fertility Plan During COVID-19
Well, this is definitely a whole new world that we’re living in right now, isn’t it. How are you coping?
These uncertain times have been particularly difficult for my fertility patients who have had their fertility plans completely thrown out the window in the last few weeks. Even worse, there is no concrete answer to when things will get back to normal. This is additional salt on the wound during a time that is wrapped up in so much stress, anxiety and uncertainty.
I’d like to give you a positive spin to the situation though.
I often say to my fertility patients that it would be best for us to step back for at least 3 months in order to lay the groundwork to optimize the “terrain” in preparation for the embryo. However, I often get a lot of pushback because many of my patients have been trying for months or years, and just want to get started. In my ideal world, all of my patients would be able to step back for at least 6 months to prepare via dietary changes, lifestyle overhauls and incorporating their customized supplement treatment plan.
Why at least 3 months?
It takes approximately 3 months for for both a sperm and an egg to develop and mature.
A follicle is called on to go through its final stage of development about 3 months before ovulation. During this time, the egg requires optimal nutrition to prepare for ovulation, and is very susceptible to inflammation, oxidative damage and environmental toxins.
A single sperm also takes about 2 to 3 months to fully mature. During this time, dietary, lifestyle and supplement modifications that are made will result in a significant impact on the sperm that you “use” 3 months later.
What needs to be done?
The following are always important to incorporate into your health regimen at least 3 months before your IUI/IVF:
- A fertility focused nutritious diet to optimize your nutritional needs
- A regular, fun and enjoyable exercise program
- Mindfulness
- An overhaul of your personal care products to ensure that they’re clean and don’t contain toxins and other endocrine disruptors
- Balance your hormones to ensure regular ovulation
- Manage your stress
- Ensure good quality sleep
If you’re ready to optimize your egg/sperm health and prepare your body to become pregnant, I’m available for virtual consultations during the closure of my physical doors. CONTACT ME HERE to set up a complimentary 15 min discovery call/meeting and we can get started.
What’s a discovery call/meeting? It’s where we get to know each other better to ensure that I’m the right practitioner for you and that you have the opportunity to ask your questions about Naturopathic Medicine before we move forward with an initial Naturopathic consultation.
