My Surgery Surprise

My Surgery Surprise

Laparoscopic Surgery

I had my laparoscopic surgery a couple of days ago and I’m doing great!  I’m a little bit sore but otherwise I’m itching to get back to work.  However, I promised my surgeon and my family that I would take 2 weeks off, so that’s what I’m doing BUT I’m already looking everywhere around the house to figure out what I can do to pass the time!  I’m not the best at just sitting at home and doing nothing — at least not when I’m feeling pretty good.

So for all of my fertility people out there, I’ve always “known” that I have endometriosis but it wasn’t 100% confirmed until my surgery.  It looks like it was a pretty bad case of it, which is NO surprise at all to my family or friends when I was growing up.

The big surprise

The big surprise when I woke up was that my surgeon informed me that I had a severe case of endo AND the pelvic infection from last year screwed things up so much that he had no choice but to remove both of my fallopian tubes because they weren’t salvageable.

That second point was was what really rocked me when I heard it.  It made it REAL that I 100% can’t conceive naturally.  EVER.  That was a really tough pill to swallow and to be honest, it’s still bumping around in my brain right now.

Moving forward

I’m only a couple of days out from that big surprising outcome from my surgery, so all of this new information is still settling in.  However, I’m choosing to focus on the positive right now.

My positives are:

  • The surgery went well and I’m recovering quickly and easily
  • I didn’t have any more crazy complications — YAY!
  • I have an amazing support network
  • My IVF retrieval went well and I have a few frozen embryos waiting for us
  • And I have an awesome group of fur babies at home!

I’ll keep you updated on what happens with me at my next step.  Wish me luck!
