The Wonders of Green Tea for Cancer Prevention
Green tea has great anti-cancer effects due to its high content of catechins. In fact, many studies have shown that regular consumption of green tea decreases the risk of certain types of cancer, particularly bladder and prostate cancer.
Anti-Angiogenesis
EGCG (epigallocatechin gallate) is the most important catechin in green it, and gets its anti-cancer properties by blocking the formation of new blood vessels (angiogenesis) into the area surrounding the tumour to obtain more oxygen and essential nutrients to further its growth and spread. Angiogenesis is essential for the development of all cancers, which means that inhibition of this process puts the tumour formation on hold and doesn’t further harm the normal functioning of the surrounding tissues.
Is Japanese Green Tea Better?
A little known fact is that Japanese green tea is richer in catechins versus Chinese teas. So, brewing loose-leaf Japanese green tea for 8-10 minutes and drinking this several times a day is a great starting point to preventing cancer!
